  • If we dont make changed by 2050 we will need twice the earths surface to survive with our consumption rated
  • Theres an eco label which shows citizens they are using products or services that do not damage the environment as much
  • The process goes both ways, consumers need to buy ecological products and producer produce them.
An Inconvenient Truth

Please describe how you can apply sustainable consumption in your city.

  • Bogota can become more sustainable in lots of different ways, for example the car exhaust here is a lot and we should try to diminish that. Buses and public transport are not clean ways of transport so we could also change that like they do in NYC, using electrically powered buses. Another thing that should be changed is the environmental regulations on companies that produce waste that destroy the environment. Bogota is not a very sunny place but it does get lots of wind on the top so we should also locate wind mills to produce energy. We should also try to ride the bicycle more, improving the security around the city could cause people to feel more safe in the streets and ride their bikes to word and back. I believe we should all buy electrical appliances that dont consume as much energy to be able to not only save the environment but save money as well. There are many ways to apply sustainable consumption in different cities but I think Bogota has a great potential to be a "green"city.

Please visit the websites of the following companies, choose one case and describe its sustainable consumption practices
•Starbucks

  • Starbucks is doing lots of things to become more environmentally friendly. For example in Chicago they are getting their cups and recycling to make them into napkins. By 2015 they want all their cups to be recyclable. They are also building energy efficient stores and trying to minimize their waste and consumption of water, energy and paper. They have decreased their water consumption by 17% since 2008. Their stores are also powered with LEED lights so they dont consume as much energy as they did before. By 2015 starbucks wants to to reduce their water consumption by 25%. Starbucks has also decided to buy renewable energy as much as they can in the places that make it available. Slowly they have started buying more and more of this energy. They are also selling cups which you can reuse to decrease the cup consumption. Since this project started the consumption of reusable cups has gone up by 5%.

Growing Up Online

Things that did not surprise me:
-people have computer game parties
-children put more attention to computers than parents
-kids text a lot and not put attention on the current situation
-students can hack the aol privacy security
-people dont read as much
-kids use sparknotes instead of reading
-there are pages to see if you take writing from another source
-cyberbulying
-people videotape fights
-kids do not mind being public
-they do not take things as seriously as adults
-kids send nudes to other people
-people change their personality online
-kids change their screens when parents come in
-kids try to keep thir online lives secret

Things that did surprise me
-people can see when parents are tracking their computers screen
-teachers have to be entertainers
-people have a hard time studying
-people dont have time to read
-cheating is not always bad to some people
-people enjoy going to PTC
-people can walk to school just an hour from Manhattan
-mothers are scared of stalkers
-parents get informed on stalkers and rapists
-people sometimes dont use the computer are home but at other friends
-1 of 7 kids where solicited online
-kids are not always victims soliciting online
-there is something called thinspiration
-people change the name annorexia to anna and look up to her
-parents usually dont know about their kids being anorexic
-people rather post videos of them talking than actually talk to people

Things that have changed
-myspace is famous
-everyone had a myspace
-people played who could have more friends
-people fight online just because
-there is usually just one computer in the house
-parents found out about videos of what their children do on weekends
-parents publicly share info about what kids usually do
-people go to cafes to use the internet
-media was talking about predators and stalkers
-people used aol
-people played to flirt with people and then say they where kidding
-people saved conversations on the computer
-adults didnt have emails
-people didnt spend as much time on the computer as now
-some universities prohibit internet use for the first 2 months

Questions:
What topic in the video did you most strongly identify with and why?
Cyberbulying is something I identify with because I have seen cyberbulyying on the first hand. On tumblr I follow this girl that alway receives very mean comments. People tell this girl to kill herself and that nobody loves her. At some point this girl started putting attention to this comments and saying they where right, that she was useless. I saw how cyberbullying affected this girl self esteem and how bad it made her feel so I think it is really wrong. For example they showed how cyberbulying can lead to suicide in this video.

What advice I give to parents about kids being online?
I personally would not like my parents having me as a friend on fb. I do recommend them having their kids on facebook so they get to know a little bit more about their kids but not to constantly look through their profile. I think having the password for your childs computer might be important but not for their social media. I think monitoring the texts is the worst thing to do because it is like betraying your son. I think trust goes both ways so if you want to see your kids profile they need to be able to trust you and give it to you willingly.  For example in the video the kids didn't give the mother their password because they didn't trust her.

What are the biggest benefits of being online?
Being online had done lots of great things for me. I can got new information very easily and get informed about almost anything. I can answer almost every question I have and help people answer theirs. I am able to express myself more freely and show a side of me I dont usually show. I think being online really helps you manage your time and learn to ignore things you dont want. Even though there are benefits of being online there are also some bad things like cyberbullying. Like the video showed you cna express yourself like the girl in the vide that had her page with her pictures.

GAFE

                    Forms and Flubaroo

Here is a tutorial for both Forms and Flubaroo

Forms

How to make a form?
From any device you have it is easy to do. It only has 3 easy steps.
1.) Click the Create button
2.) Click Form
3.) When the template opens you can put any questions you like and organize it.

What can they be used for?
Forms can be used for different things such as planning events, sending a survey, making quizzes or collect information in an easy stream like way.
.
How to embed a form on a blog or website?
This question took me a long time to answer and it was very long so I decided to `put the link to the most useful page that helped me answer this question. The page is HERE.

                                                                 Flubaroo
What is Flubaroo?
Flubaroo is a page to help grade things faster. It is created by a teacher for a teacher  There are 5 easy steps to use it.

How do you use is?
You use is by following 5 steps. This are:
Creating an assignment
Creating an answer key
Assigning it
Grading it
Reviewing the grades

To get more in depth information on specifics of how to use this program click HERE.

What would it be useful for?
Iv'e seen lots of different apps and programs that help students with their homework and I never realized all that work has to be graded. I think this would be a great program for teachers to get their work done faster and more easily. It would also help students because they would get their score emailed to them as soon as it is graded. A downside to this is teachers would have more time so they could put more assignments which is not in my best interest.

Both of this programs can be used by teachers and students. Flubaroo is designed specially for teachers while forms is created for more uses. I think teachers can use both of them for next year and students can use forms to learn about their classmates or when they need a survey on different subjects.

Google Day #2

3 goals for the day
Find which university is better
Find out which university is more expensive
How the university being there affects the town.

Links with description of why they are useful to your goals
This link showed me that the towns population is 20% students.
This link showed me the position of different universities worldwide.
This link showed me the price of Yale per year.
Cambridge Tuition costs
Toronto University approx. living cost
Yale's info on population in there
Explains how Toronto U owns lots of land along the university.

Evidence of what you learned or learned to do and a description of your new knowledge or skills

I learned that depending on what you want to study each school is better for different things. For example Yale Law is a great school while Cambirdge is great at sciences. I found out yale is currently university #7, Cambridge is #2 and Toronto Univeristy is #19. In theory Cambridge is better then Yale and finally Toronto U. Even though one is better than the other  the three are really great universities in the top 20 worldwide.

Yale's Tuition for Arts and Science Program: $35,500
Cambridges Tuition: £9,000
Toronto University Tuition: about $25,000

Cambridge towns population is 20%
Yale University is the main job provider in New Haven
Toronto University owns lots of land and even a hotel around this school.

One thing that you want to learn next Google day
I want to learn about the some traditions this universities have.

Google Glasses

-What you know about the topic before your research
I know the google glasses are glasses that look normal but really contain lots of information. They are like two mini computer screens on your eyes. I know it is a very great advance in technology and I know some people compare them to the people in Wall-E.

-What you wonder or questions you have about the topic before researching (at least 2)
I wonder what the glasses have (camera?).
I wonder how to control the glasses.

-Links to where you found the most useful information (at least 2, NOT Wikipedia, although you can use it to help you)
Googles page: explains what it does and some cool features.
Page with different opinions: showed me peoples point of view as well as positive and negative things.

-Bullet list of things you learned about the topic (at least 5)
The glasses are controlled by voice
It can give you directions
You can wear them with other glasses
You could be part of an experimentation group
The price is around the same as a regular smartphone.

-A short summary of how this topic connects/relates to you or your life
This topic connects to my life because depending on this the glasses might not work here in Colombia. If the glasses do work I might buy one and use it. I might have a smartphone and glasses or I might just choose one. Depending on the results the glasses might reach the Colombian market which might affect me because it is where I live. I might be a consumer of this product and I might recommend it so it does affect me and my life.

-Questions you still have (at least 1)
How do they make the glasses so they dont damage your eyes or cause problems.

Design Project Day 5

I think we succedeed at making the game fun because we did it very colorful and we where also to able to incorporate prizes which is exactly what we wanted to do.

The biggest problem we encountered definitely was finding out a way to put the prizes on the box in an easy way that could be easy yet well designed. What we did is cut 3 sides of a square into a box and fold them backwards where we put the prizes. It was an easy yet smart solution we had.

Our AHA HA idea was when we decided to incorporate prizes in the game and when we came up with the idea on how to do that. It was in my opinion what made the game so successful.

Me because I thought the ideas they had where not as good as they could be. I also thought the possibility of this ideas resulting where not likely. We mostly agreed in everything.

That the game would be so difficult and no kid would be able to get a prize. This was not the case they even told us it was a tad easy. We overcame those doubts by making the squares different sizes.

Tatiana was de D----'s Advocate because she questioned everything to try to make it better. She was always adding to good ideas. She also helped us realize why some ideas where not good which was really helpful at the end of the day.

I learned I can really work well in a group. I also learned it is necessary to question each others ideas to succeed in finding a good one. I learned teamwork is giving and receiving not just controlling everybody. What I learned about the process is it always is about making the "costumer" happy.

Design project-day 3

This game does match our descriptions because it is fun to play and it is not that easy nor that hard. Also it is going to be colorfull and sparkly.

The most powerfull ideas we have are the prizes and how we made them so people cant just take them with out winning. Also the different hole sizes.

At first we wanted to do circles but we would do squares now because it is easier to construct if we choose squares.

What needs to be done to make the model is:
We need to build the model then we paint it and then we make the prizes and put them in the spaces for the prizes we also constructed.

What needs to be done:
1. First we need to cut a large piece of cardboard that will then be cut into 3 equal pieces.
2. In the middle piece of cardboard we will cut out squares of different sizes.
3. We will then fold it so it makes a cube with only 3 sides having the squares in the front.
4. Then we will take another piece of cardboard with the same width as the cube and make it a slope and stick it to the back of the cube.
5. Finally we will create small shelves according to each square size to place the prize.
6. After having the model done we will paint and decorate it with pink and sparkling things.
We will all work together to complete each task.

Other materials we need are paint, glitter, brushes, prizes, bisturi, little bags and maybe duct tape.
Nicole will bring everything except the brushes which Tatiana would bring and I would bring the glitter.

Design project-day 2

Tatianas Drawing: A good thing is it is very creative the butterflies as holes, bad it is harder to put the candy and to get the ball in so it would be very hard.
Nicole's Drawing: A good thing is she has an organized and a bad thing is it might get to repetitive.
My Drawing: A good thing is it is easier to create but it is very dull and boring.

The drawing with the most strengths is Nicole's because it is easy to do easy to understand and play yet not so easy it gets boring.

Details from other model we will include is paint butterflies around the circles from Tatianas idea and my idea for different circle sizes.

Something we would like to add is something to cover up the prizes and to put them in little bags. Something we would like to get out is having the same candy.

Feedback: Make the holes squares not circles so it is easier to do and play as well so there is also margin of error. They thought we constructed it very well and that the prizes where a good idea. Other feedback we received was putting points so when the candy is all won people can keep playing.

Design project-day 1

Tatiana Seinjet and Nicole Theilkul

Define Phase:
1) Who will the game be for?
Elementary girls
2) Difficulty of game?
Medium
3) What makes the game fun?
Candy prizes, different colors, different hole sizes, big and sparkly and better prices each time yo play.

Research Phase:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DrT_lAnfwKI: A good thing about this game is that it is fun, you can use different birds and you can control where it goes. A bad thing is that when you throw all the peices then you have to put them back up again which can make it kind of boring.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=14uE5jdJZYg: A good thing about this game is everybody knows how to use it and it is very colorfull and interactive which makes it fun. A bad thing is it is kind of hard to do and you can cheat on this game very easily.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=irGKDoPWc9U: A good thing about this video is it is really fun and it is not so hard to construct. A bad thing is that you may cheat on this game very easily like just take the prizes, you could also make it harder because it is too easy to play.

Ideation Phase:

Brainstorm: A claw game in which you match the animal with its baby, a game in which you you push 2 things out of different covered toilet paper rolls and if they match you get to get the prices, we had an idea to throw a ball and different sized cones and if they got in you could take the prize that was inside.

The idea we chose was the last one. This game would be fun because it would be very collorfull and you will have different prizes to win, it is also fun because you would have different levels of difficulty it would be easy yet a little bit challenging.

Some things that could go wring with the game is people just grabbing the prizes, some of the circles being to easy and the prizes to run out on that one, people getting to close so it would be too easy, some levels being to hard. To avoid those we could make the prizes go out of like a slide so people cant take them, also give extra prizes for the teacher in case the candy runs out.

Homework:
